Havilynn's Parade Costume

Havilynn's costume is white vinyl with gold and silver checkered ribbon trim. The bottom edges of the body costume and the edges of the facemask are studded with hundreds of bright brass nailheads. Large costume jewels appear in the hanging spades.

Sharon's costume was fashioned out of a Halloween costume pattern for a midevil lady's gown. To make the hat she used a small bridal cap pattern. The trim on the gown matches the rein coverings. Black English riding boots completed the ensemble.

Patterning the horse costumes was a challenge. We first made patterns out of construction paper and tailored them. Then we cut costumes out of felt and tailored them. Then we cut the vinyl and glued the felt to the vinyl provide more substance and to act as a lining. The jeweling (studs, jewels, etc.) was added over the years when we found these things on sale at local craft stores.
