"Riding to McDonald's"

It wasn't that many years ago that we could ride into Brentwood and grab a burger and soda from the McDonald's drive-through from horseback, or drag a picnic table from Rich's Drive In into the middle of a nearby alley and have lunch (with a half dozen horses crowding in to steal french fries).

We needed to cross Marsh Creek to get to Brentwood, so we'd ride across the Southern Pacific trestle... paying particular attention to the train signal lights to make sure we weren't confronted by an approaching train! Well, times are certainly different now and traffic is too bad for such ventures into town. I'll miss the expression on the patrons' faces when old Prints would stick his head in through the drive-through window... as far as he could, sniffing the cash register and anything else within reach of his big spotted nose!

The dreaded
"Marsh Creek trestle"

Note the rotten and often missing siderails!
