  ABOUT THE PROBLEM

Senator Conrad Burns (R-MT) surreptitiously sneaked a rider into the massive "Omnibus" Appropriations Bill that was recently signed into law by President Bush. This rider requires the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to dispose of thousands of Federally protected wild horses and burros. These animals will most likely go for slaughter.

Aside from the heinousness of Senator Burns' rider, it was a glaring example of how Congress is not supposed to behave... overturning a long standing broadly supported Federal law through abuse of the rider process. His behavior was an act of anti-Americanism at the core of our democracy, taking place in what should have been a public lawmaking process.

      ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The conference will be a national meeting of various wild horse and animal welfare groups (both large and small) and non-affiliated individuals who have an interest in wild horse and burro issues.

The purpose of the conference is to provide a venue to distribute correct and up to date information, learn of issues and activities taking place in the various states and regions, and coming to determination as to the most appropriate and ethical actions the groups and allied citizens can take to stop the impending slaughter of thousands of our wild horses.

Here's a link to a story about the conference as it appeared in the Carson City Nevada Appeal.

    Please note:

It appears that interest in this conference is significant enough that we may reach the limits of the room's legal occupancy capacity. It is important for groups or individuals serious about attending to send in a registration form. We want to make sure to have seats for all delegates and interested wild horse advocates before spectators fill the room. Ergo we need to know that you are coming and you need to be present at the start of the meeting!

Please submit a Registration Form, and also please be sure to let us know if you have to cancel so we can assign your seat to someone else.

      HOW TO GET THERE

Casino Fandango is located at 3800 S. Carson Street (US-395) just south of the downtown area in the "Auto Row" district.
