"L'il Peep"

Willis and L'il Peep taking an afternoon break
We've raised more than a few orphan birds at the ranch but L'il Peep has become sort of a celebrity

Annie Marriquin found L'il Peep in the hay barn in early July. His egg apparently was kicked out of his nest by a crow and after falling over 18 feet to the floor, it broke open. Miraculously L'il Peep survived. We put some straw in an old plastic supplement bucket and "incubated" him by balancing the bucket on the shade of a table lamp. We soaked dog food kibbles in water and fed him through a veterinary syringe (with no needle attached, of course!)

L'il Peep grew up as did all the other birds, graduating to a cage which was veentually placed out on the front porch to get used to the outdoors. When it came time for him to go out on his own, he enjoyed the freedom of the great outdoors but he'd return to his cage at night to be taken inside.

He also still liked an occasional "free meal" and would swoop down out of the tree hovering in front of our faces looking for food.

L'il Peep also likes to go for walks, which we discover when we're out in the yard and which is extremely awkward since he doesn't walk very straight and doesn't seem to understand about human feet!
