Danny Love's Farrier's Corner

Correcting Flared Hooves

This is a retired race track mare, put out to pasture. She hadn't had the best of care given to her feet. Her size and weight, plus being on hard pasture, were a rough combination to her feet. They were splitting and severely flared.
I felt she would greatly benefit from 1" wide web aluminum shoes.
The forward foot is looking a little better now.

And now the finished job. I added a little moisturizer to aid for dryness.

With a good base of support, this horse maintained relativly healthy and properly shaped hooves.
