Blazing Arrow (AKA "Arrow")

Arrow was found on the range in November, 1997. She had been shot with two arrows. Representatives of Wild Horse Spirit treated and rehabilitated her. Sherry Hartman was approved to adopt and rehabilitate her.

Sherry Hartman reports: The group that found Arrow, Wild Horse Spirit, is from the Gardnerville area. Arrow was originally with the Virginia Range horses, from the Pine Nut area. She was found near Mark Twain in Storey county Nevada.

Blazing Arrow has four other corral mates. Whiskey and Wild Fire are geldings from the Virgina City Highlands of the Virginia Range. Misty is a mare from the Nellis area. Logan's Run is a quarter horse that is from the Gierger Grade area south of Reno.

Arrow

Blazing Arrow is recovering nicely. One arrow punctured the lung cavity causing a pneumothorax. The arrow missed her heart by 3 inches according to the Vet. She also had a wound on her right buttock that they suspected was from another arrow.

She is now halter broke and leads well. She loves to go to the pen where her "buddy" (Logan) is so that she can play with him. She is very bright and frisky and a fast learner. She wasn't sure what to do with her first snow. She reared and pawed and tried to catch flakes on her tongue. She has a 12x12 shelter with bedding and her feeder. She paws the bedding into a big pile and then likes to lay down on it. Snack time is her favorite, she likes her apples and carrots. Her feelings get hurt if you walk by her pen and don't stop to say hi and give a scratch.

She especially likes having her dock scratched. She's gaining weight and growing day by day. On her good days we call her Arrow, other days we call her B.A. Infer from that what you will!

(We're hoping for more photos soon!)

Also shown here are two of Blazing Arrow's stable mates. Whiskey is in the foreground and WildFire is in the background. They where captured in Sept of 1996 with two bands of horses that a person in Virginia City complained about. The local sheriff rounded them up (six horses) and took them to the Virginia Range Wildlife Protection Association that has a wild horse holding area where this picture was taken.
