"Kefira"

Lisa and Kefira getting ready for a winter ride.
Kefira was foaled in 1990 in the Cedar Mountains of Utah. She was captured as a 2 year old. Lisa did not originally adopt her from the BLM, but she bought her from the people who originally adopted her after they had kept her for a year.

Kefira's original adopters had no intentions of selling her, but they are breeders of Morgans and had plenty of other horses to take care of. When Lisa bought Kefira (which she calls "Kira" for short), she was not "broke" and had only been saddled once. Lisa put a lot of hard work into Kira's training.

She was pretty hard to catch when Lisa first brought her home, but gradually Kira's trust in Lisa grew. Now Kira comes up to Lisa when she goes out to the pasture. The Cedar Ridge herd has a lot of Morgan blood in it and Kira has beautiful gaits, especially her extended trot.

Lisa says the most difficult things she's had to get Kira to aclimate to are cars passing close by when riding alongside the road and flappy plastic "monsters." (She still doesn't like those.)

A little bareback work
A somewhat "Morgan-like pose.
Covering some ground during a turnout.
