Loretta Jones got Mikki as a 12 year old. She reports: "He was a little nervous when I first got him. He hadn't been touched for two years and was grazing
on 90 acres with two other horses. But he was gentle as a kitten the first time my daughter got on him bareback. It took him quite a while to trust me, but now I just call him and he'll come."
Mikki stands 14.3 hands high with a big thick neck and feet like a mule. He has no bad habits, but is still leery of a few things -- but that is just the wild nature in him -- even the older boys can be trained.
Loretta goes on to say: "Mikki and I have learned a lot together. He has no bad habits and has perfect ground manners. I couldn't ask for a better companion and trail horse. We have a very special bond."
The first time Loretta rode him was in an arena at the local college in a horsemanship class. She now says she wouldn't part with him for any amount of money. "He's like one of my kids."
But she did part with him in order to give him to a long time friend, Laurie Simpson, and her great family.
Mikki suffered a bone chip, needed some TLC and careful rehab. He appears to be doing wonderfully
with all the attention he's getting.
