Reno was foaled 1996 on the Maverick-Medicine HMA NV 105, near Currie,
Nevada, Elko County. He was captured July 21, 1997 and I adopted him May
23, 1998 at Rutland, Vermont, without being able to determine his
whereabouts for 10 months. He is almost 13.3 H and estimated to weigh over
800 pounds, with a heavy body and neck (still a stud).
The adoption of Reno was not in my plans as I had said I would only adopt a
pregnant mare (never a stud) and would probably wait until September for the
adoption at Harrington, Delaware. Upon our arrival at the Rutland adoption site Friday afternoon, my wife and I viewed the horses and there were several very nice 2 year olds. One, a stud, caught my eye and caused me to check on him frequently---stood tall, very alert, great confirmation, with ears up but not nervous. Several other adopters had him on their lists and I knew my chances were slim.
During the night I decided it would be this beautiful sorrel stud or none,
since I was 300 miles from home and no trailer. Luckily, I drew #2 the next morning and selected #9178 in pen #5. I called a friend to bring a trailer and take Reno home. The next morning around 6AM, we unloaded him to hay and water without incident. After breakfast, I returned to the corral and started rubbing his face and neck within a few
minutes. He enjoyed the rubbing and brushing over his entire body.
