"Sarge"

Ben and Sarge (4 months after the adoption)

Where do we start to explain Sarge. Sarge was a yearling who Ben North (via his mom) adopted and worked with at Wild Horse Workshop '98. Now Ben wanted to bring Sarge along himself, and under the tutilage of Sgt. Mark Atwood (Sarge's namesake), Ben got a pretty decent start with his little adoptee.

Throughout the workshop, you'd see Ben and Sarge wandering about, exploring things, looking for scary obstacles to overcome, and becoming a regular part of the scenery. During a night meeting involving the group and BLM staffers, in out of the dark comes Ben and Sarge. His mom had to tell him that maybe it was time to put the horse away, although Sarge didn't seem to mind the attention.

When the television crews came to see how some of the horses were doing a couple of weeks after the workshop, they had to film Ben and Sarge taking all the obstacles, going through the pit and generally just exploring a host of things which the horse had never seen before... and of course interview both Ben and Sarge.

Now Ben's riding Sarge. We're telling him to take it easy since Sarge is pretty young and perhaps a little too willing for his own good. He definitely doesn't look the part of a Wild BLM mustang!

I'm sure we'll get more progress reports and info on Ben and Sarge.
