"Ciye Tanka"

Tanka

Jayney Sharpe wrote:

"I was determined that this time, I was NOT getting another horse. 7 was enough. On the first day of gathering, I saw him coming in before the helicopter and never changed my mind once. I had to have him, and I got him.

"Did I tell my husband? Eventually, after two weeks. The horse went to Canon City for training, so I had a little time to break it to him gently. We named him.

Jayney gave a great report on the restructured inmate training program at Canon City. She reports, "They did a fabulous job with Tanka. He is in 35 acres with my other 7 mustangs, easy to catch and has established himself as the king pin, but with manners! Since coming in from the range the most recently, he has the best "horsey" herd manners of any of my others. Rides beautifully and does sliding stops naturally by instinct. We even had to buy skid boots for him!"

Ciye Tanka means Great Big Brother in Lakota/Sioux. "Great Big" is right. At 3 years old he's already 15-3 and bets are he'll top out at 16-2.

Jayney just reported:

"We are using Tanka now in the Wednesday night jackpot series as a pickup horse in bull riding and for roping in the calf roping events. If he continues to do so beautifully, he will be a regular mount this summer in the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series as a pickup horse in the big bull riding event. My business partner (see link below) is so impressed with him, works as an attendant for the rodeo series. He wants to make him his regular horse! Actually he wants to make him his horse! Fat chance of that, that boy isn't going anywhere but home to me!!"

(Jayney has promised us some pix of that!)
