Jerald Rennels writes:
"Born in 1986 In some 'Yonder Canyon' around Lovelock, NV., Y.C. was gathered
by the BLM, then sent to Susanville Prison for a short time to be adjusted to
civilization. In 1990 my son told me I needed a mustang and so I put $125.00 in
my pocket, and said 'Lets go get one' when the BLM had a sale in Bakersfield.
"YC stood in the corner of the holding pen waiting for me, The 'Old Man,' to see
him. We looked at each other and figgered we could be friends.
"I used the 'pocket knife and stick" method to gentle him. I sat in the middle
of the corral with a stick and my pocket knife and whittled on that stick for 2 days with
YC watching all the time. Then he came over to me, I got in his head. He needed a friend and I needed a
horse.
"The halter went on, then the saddle. Next, time to mount. Time for my son
to make the solo run, YC walked out, and turned into quite a horse. He lives here on
Poso Creek in the foothills of the Sierras. He and all the mountain critters
live in harmony although he still watches out for 'FFHEs' (Four Fanged Horse Eaters)"
"YC is one heck of a smart, sure-footed, and willing to
learn animal! Adopted at age 4, he retained all of his instincts for
survival in the wild, yet adapts well to sharing life with us humans."
Well, we certainly hope to be seeing more photos of YC soon!
