Saving horses that had run out their time!

LIFESAVERS RIDES TO THE RESCUE (Again)
Part Two
"I think we're going to be OK."

The Rescue Begins!

Jill Starr notified Shirley Allen of Least Resistance Training Concepts (LRTC) that Lifesavers would be a major partner in this rescue operation. Lifesavers would back the operation and LRTC would handle logistics. The state gelded all of the studs. Various approved adoption groups also agreed to participate to the extent of their available holding capacity.

One of the problems that we had to overcome was that western holding capacity was stretched beyond all reasonable limits and the adoption groups were already taking in about as much as the qualified adoption market could handle. (Nobody wanted to place horses in less than desirable situations but where were we going to put all of these horses until we could locate and check out good adopter applicants?)

Then a private ranch operator in Lawler, IA stepped up to the plate and indicated that around 30 horses could be held at their facility for adoption. He will provide large scale Foster Care provided LRTC will screen poitential adopters and handle the adoptions. Transportation has arranged and the horses that could safely travel the distance should travel to Iowa on April 29th. Mares with newborn foals and mares expected to deliver any time would only be moved short distances to Foster Care in western Nevada and California.

The horses being rescued and available for adoption can be viewed on the LRTC web site.     Click here to see them.

At shipping time we will be able to determine the destinations for the various horses and we will post a list for any of you who may wish to help out and adopt.

Once again, teamwork among the wild horse groups and the Nevada Dept. of Agriculture solved what appeared to be an insurmountable problem, with Lifesavers truly throwing the "lifesaver" that got the ball rolling. A sensible projectis now funded, everyone is pitching in and these horses will have a great chance for good adoptive homes.
