Replacing Old Rubber Gaskets

Some signals used narrow rubber gaskets to seal doors and portholes. For a while it seemed problematic to find suitable material to replace damaged or missing gaskets. Some doors had gasket channels suitable for using screen gaskets (the rubber gaskets used to hold screens onto screen frames.) But larger channels, too big for screen gaskets but too small for rope gaskets still presented a puzzle.

What I found that seems to work really well are gaskets salvaged from the lids of five gallon plastic pails. Cut to length and held in place by some adhesive, these gaskets seem to work perfectly in these situations.
