General Electric (GE) Form 110SO 110 Volt Street Light |
The GE Form 110SO lamp is the 110 volt version of the Form 79SO. Originally the Form 79 was used for high voltage series and multiple circuit applications. At that time photoelectric controls were tube powered and were the size of electric meters.
GE designed a street light head that was cylindrical in shape and for which the meter sized photo control could be affixed on the top. While bulky, this design simplified the installation of single lamps. Later when much smaller solid state photocontrols were developed, GE made an adapter plate so that when the older tube type controls failed, they could be replaced with more modern twist-lock type controls. |

This luminaire was the last working incandescent street lamp from the village of Mt. Kisco, NY. Finding an original incandescent SO lamp was a bit unusual since many were converted to 100-watt mercury vapor. This lamp was in good enough condition to go back into service for area lighting. The reflector design minimized "stray" lighting and helped preserve "dark skies." |
