GE's Novalux Form 25A was one of GE's decorative pendant designs. The earliest account of this design we could find was in GE's 1935-36 catalog.
Although GE still provided lamps with Holophane's prismatic style globes, the company was producing a number of lamps that used "ripple glass" diffusing globes made by Gleason-Tiebolt Glass (GTG.) The Form 25A came with a large diffusing globe that was decorated with brass ornamental ribs. The head or crown piece was made from cast iron and is quite heavy. The various versions of the Form 25 enjoyed a brief sales history as the newer and much lighter aluminum Form 79, while far less decorative, was a more practical luminaire. This luminaire was incorrectly packed when it was shipped, resulting in the globe being badly broken. Since No. 116 globes are nearly impossible to find, the pieces of the broken globe were carefully glued back together over several days and this globe will serve until some future date when hopefully an intact globe can be found. |
