  Holophane Wall Mount Luminaire

Holophane designed optics and refractors for an exceptional number of street light models, mostly for GE and also for its own line of luminaires. In addition to a variety of pendant designs, Holophane also manufactured durable wall mount luminaires for pedestrian walkways, public buildings and for parking and security lighting.

This particular luminaire was the smaller of two known versions of wall mount fixtures. The original cloth wiring (replaced during restoration) suggested that this particular luminaire was manufactured in the late 1940s. These designs were manufactured for several decades. (The ones I used to service were installed in the 1960s.)

The larger design could safely accommodate 250 watt incandescent lamps. The smaller units such as this one likely had a 150 watt limit. Both designs effectively projected light in their respective coverage areas.
