| The shoe is held in place and nails driven. (The nails stay outside the sensitive area of the hoof.) |

| Each nail is wrung off with the hammer claw to hold the shoe tight and eliminate dangerous sharp points until the nails can be clinched. |

| Then the nail points are blocked. Blocking dulls any remaining sharp edges and starts to form the clinch. |
