  FIXED FOUR-WAY SIGNALS
In the New Millennium
Part Six

  Seattle, WA

Seattle likely holds the record for the greatest collection of vintage post-mounted fixed four-way signals. Most of these old timers only have indications on one or two aspects since they are mounted on corners and street medians, however these are Seattle's original signals from the WW-II era, still in operation in the city's historic district.

Eaglelux mounted on a wooden pole. (First Avenue and S. King Street)
Crouse-Hinds mounted on a 100 year-old lamp post. (First Avenue and S. King Street)
Crouse-Hinds Type D. (First Avenue and Main Street)
Crouse-Hinds with a louvered green indication. (First Avenue and Cherry Street)
First Avenue and Yessler Way
Sometimes an historic signal gets knocked down and replaced, as with the signal in the median.
Eagle with new pedestrian heads. (Second Avenue and Yessler Way)
Eagles. (Second Avenue and Yessler Way)
Old signals still in service alongside new 12-inch heads that face the arterial street
An Eagle 4-way stop beacon with a Presto-Brite sign box still in service. (Second Avenue and Main Street)
Western Avenue and Marion Street
Not a fixed 4-way but an old Econolite cluster that still hangs over the intersection

If you take a Google Street View tour around the historic section of downtown you'll likely find a number of other treasures... while they last!

I was fortunate enough to acquire one of the old span-wired four-ways complete with a Presto Brite sign box. It was a Marbelite in really rough shape, but it is now restored to its original condition and is in the collection.
