  FIXED FOUR-WAY SIGNALS
In the New Millennium
Part Seven

  ATHENS, AL.
Something old and Something New

Athens, AL is another city that has preserved historic 4-way signals in order to save costs while maintaining the city's character. They have doubled up signals in order to meet the MUTCD's redundancy standards and installed some relatively new pairs of 4-ways. Athens is one of many cities that has discovered that some of these older designs provide great reliability while preserving a more nostalgic and less cluttered community appearance.

The photos below were provided by Free Brick Productions. The images are linked to Google Street Views of the intersections.
